Choosing the Right Carpet for Your Leicester Home

Whether you are searching for the perfect Leicester property with the help of Keywest, you are in the process of sealing a deal or you want to give your current home a revamp to ensure you get the best possible price when we help you to sell or rent, choosing new carpet can seem like a complicated process.

Fear not, however. Even if you don’t know your tufted from your woven, help is at hand. As always, Keywest has the advice you need to make the most of your Leicester house, bungalow or flat.

Let’s Begin

Before doing anything else, consider where you want your carpet to go and what sort of performance you need and the tones you should be considering. Remember that a softer pile may be great for a bedroom, where it will only have to withstand the demands of bare feet or slippers, but may not be the right choice for high-footfall areas, where you will be better serviced by a low-pile, tight tuft.

Look at the density of carpets you are considering, particularly for high-traffic areas. The closer the fibres are together, the denser it will be and the more resilience you will get. Generally, short and dense fibres offer the most durability, and darker colours will normally perform best in areas of high use.

Taking Samples and Measuring

Whether you are buying online or from a bricks-and-mortar retailer, take samples home and place them in different areas of the room you want to carpet. This will let you see how the fibres are affected by the light. You should also tread on it and find out how quickly and easily those fibres spring back.

You will also need to consider the cost, and so measure your space before you start to shop, adding at least 10cm to both length and width measurements in order to allow for trimming. This will give you a rough estimate of the area you need to cover and allow you to set your budget.

Having a good idea of how much you want to spend can be really helpful in preventing costs from spiralling out of control. Also, don’t forget to factor in the price of extras such as underlay and door bars as well as fitting costs if you’re not into DIY.

Extras to Consider

Do you want underlay? This will usually add to your budget – although there are sometimes free underlay offers – but it can increase comfort levels and reduce both noise and energy costs by providing an extra layer of insulation.

A good underlay can also considerably add to the life of the carpet you buy, as it helps to ensure that it wears evenly and sits correctly. It can also reduce pile compressing, enabling your carpet to maintain its appearance.
