Home Survey Advice for Leicester First-Time Buyers

First-Time Buyers’ Fortnight runs until February 26, meaning that it is a great time to let the Keywest team help you to take your first steps on the property ladder.

We are perfectly placed to give you all of the information you need on the Leicester property market, but the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) also wants East Midlands first-time buyers to take it upon themselves to learn more about the process of buying a Leicester property.

First-Time Buyers’ Fortnight is aimed at empowering and inspiring people to buy their first home, but RICS, a professional organisation which sets standards within the construction, land and property sectors, believes that a large number of first-time buyers have limited knowledge about core buying issues. This includes the amount of deposit required, lending requirements and the mortgage process, the availability of financial support and the importance of a Home Buyer Survey. The latter can be vital in revealing defects and faults which could affect the value of a property.

To help deal with what it sees as an issue to be tackled, the RICS has come up with its own Buying A Home Guide to offer clear and impartial advice, covering these issues and others, including information about instructing a solicitor/conveyancer. A spokesman for RICS East Midlands said that whilst taking the first steps on the property ladder can be exciting, it can also be confusing for people who don’t understand the buying process.

A recent RICS survey found that more than half (51 per cent) of its members believed that buyers are unaware of the differences between Home Buyer Surveys and mortgage valuations, with many believing that the latter is a form of survey.

The RICS Buying A Home Guide gives advice about types of Home Buyer Survey and the ways in which you can ensure that you are fully informed when you make an offer for a property with the help of the Keywest team. The RICS East Midlands spokesman points out that buying a property will often be the most expensive purchase you will make, meaning that it is essential that you carry out proper research and view lots of properties to ensure that you have a good feel for the Leicester market. He also advises having as big a deposit as possible to help secure your purchase and the best possible mortgage deal.
