Leicester City Festival Is Just One Attraction in an Action-Packed City

If you are considering a move to Leicester, you may be wondering if there will be enough to keep you entertained, especially if you are seeking to maximise on the value on offer in our city compared to the likes of London.

Fear not, as the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. Not only is Leicester bursting with all-year-round attractions and amenities, it also plays host to a huge variety of special events each year, not least the up-and-coming Leicester City Festival.

If you want to find out more about all that Leicester has to celebrate, head into the city between August 12 and 28, when Leicester’s heart will beat with the excitement of 17 days of sports, music, street entertainment, heritage and art.

It is the fifth year that the festival has been held, and it is now firmly established as one of the city’s major annual events. As in previous years, it will include the likes of Ride Leicester, Get Active, Journeys Festival International, Leicester Belgrave Mela, the Old Town Festival and the Cosmopolitan Carnival.

The Old Town festival will be held in Jubilee Square on August 28 and will feature a host of children’s activities held in colourful medieval tents and entertainment provided by the likes of storytellers, maypole dancers, jugglers and jesters. The Cosmopolitan Carnival, meanwhile, will be held between 2pm and 9.30pm on August 12. The streets and squares of the city will be bought to life through almost every type of art form, and a combination of music, dance and the arts looks set to create a real carnival atmosphere.

If you like the idea of celebrating the type of healthy and active lifestyle that living in Leicester can offer, the Ride Leicester Festival will celebrate cycling between August 12 and August 28 with a range of race events, a City Ride family ride and a fun-packed Rickshaw Run.

As well as these popular events, the City Festival 2017 will also boast some new additions this year, including the Big Weekender, offering a taste of the ever-popular Leicester Comedy Festival, and City Streets, which will see unique performances from international and British street artists.

The Leicester Music Trail will include a variety of special events aimed at showcasing a selection of impressive performance arts and music, and the Night of Festivals will mark 70 years of Pakistani and Indian independence.
